Latest Fast Chargers

The fastest charging technology in production anywhere is coming to Australia. BYD's premium brand Denza pairs a 1000 V vehicle architecture with its own liquid-cooled Flash Charging terminals, taking a battery from ten to ninety-seven per cent in about nine minutes. Flash-capable cars are already being delivered to Australian customers, and brand dealer sites are where the chargers land first. This is the benchmark every other charging site in the country will be measured against.

01 · The technology

Three pieces have to line up: the car, the battery, the terminal.

Flash charging is not a faster charger bolted to an existing car. BYD rebuilt the whole chain: architecture, cell chemistry and charging hardware, so that a megawatt can actually move.

01 · The car

Super e-Platform, 1000 V

A 1000 V full-domain architecture using 1500 V silicon-carbide power semiconductors, capable of accepting 1000 A. Nothing sold in Australia before this could take that current. BYD quotes around 400 km of range added in five minutes.

02 · The battery

Blade Battery 2.0

Second-generation LFP: 10 to 70 per cent in about five minutes, 10 to 97 per cent in about nine. It is also designed to pull 30 to 50 per cent more power from ordinary chargers, so the benefit is not confined to Flash sites.

03 · The terminal

Liquid-cooled Flash Charger

BYD's own hardware, rated to 1360 kW in China and quoted up to 1500 kW per gun for the Australian rollout, with overhead charging booms and dual-gun charging. Each Australian site occupies roughly three car spaces.

04 · The clever part

Solar and battery buffered

The site does not draw a megawatt from the grid. A large on-site battery, kept topped up by solar, delivers the burst. That is what lets a dealership install one without a substation upgrade, and it is the model every constrained Australian site will end up copying.

02 · Coming to Australia

How it reaches Australian roads

Flash charging reaches Australia the way charging technology usually does: with the vehicles first, at brand dealer sites, then outward into the wider network. The chargers are intended to be open to any EV that can physically connect.

StageWhereWhat
01Brand dealer sitesThe first terminals go in where the cars are sold and serviced, in the capital cities, alongside the vehicles that can use them.
02The wider dealer networkAcross the broader BYD dealer footprint, and open to drivers of all makes rather than one brand's customers.
03Public and highway sitesPartnerships with charging operators and site owners take flash charging beyond dealership land.

Why it is happening at all: rapid charging is the pinch point in Australian EV ownership, and queues at busy sites are the complaint that surfaces every holiday period. A nine-minute charge does more for a queue than another four bays at 50 kW.

03 · The cars

The vehicles are already being delivered here

Flash-capable vehicles are being handed over to Australian customers. As with every generation of fast charging, the capability arrives at the top of the range first and works its way down as the platform spreads through the line-up.

On the road here

Already in customers' hands

Cars built on the 1000 V architecture, with batteries rated to accept megawatt-class current, are being delivered to Australian buyers. The vehicles are here before the charging network is.

Across the range

A platform, not a model

Flash charging is a property of the vehicle architecture rather than one car. As the architecture rolls through the line-up, every new model that adopts it adds to the number of cars on the road looking for a terminal that can feed them.

Volume, not luxury

It will not stay premium

BYD is one of the largest EV brands in Australia and builds its own batteries, chips and chargers. Technology it develops for the flagship does not stay there. It becomes the mainstream specification.

04 · What it means

This is the shape of rapid charging in Australia

Whether or not your site ever installs a BYD terminal, the expectation it sets changes what a charging bay has to do.

Charging stops become refuelling stops

BYD's own executives describe the experience as comparable to filling a petrol car. Once drivers have had that, a forty-minute stop at a destination charger stops feeling like a service and starts feeling like a delay.

One bay does the work of several

Cut dwell time from forty minutes to nine and throughput per bay multiplies. Fewer chargers, less land, better utilisation, but only where the supply and cable route behind the bay were sized for the current.

Storage instead of a substation upgrade

The Denza model, solar plus a large battery buffering a modest grid connection, is directly applicable to dealerships, service centres, fleet depots and roadhouses across Sydney, where network capacity is the binding constraint and a supply upgrade is the long pole in the program.

Dealers will be asked for it first

If you sell or service these vehicles, the charging equipment on your forecourt is now part of the brand standard. We build dealership charging, switchboards and supply upgrades across Southern and South Western Sydney.

05 · What we do

Build the site so the terminal is a swap, not a rebuild

At these power levels the charger is the easy part. The project is supply, storage, protection and network negotiation, commercial electrical work we have been doing since 1999.
