The solar rebate now covers systems up to 1 MW
Until now, the upfront solar rebate (small-scale technology certificates, or STCs) stopped at 100 kW. From 1 October 2026, systems between 100 kW and 1 MW can earn them too. That puts warehouses, factories, clubs, schools and farms in line for the same rebate homes and small businesses already get.

How the 1 MW change works
Mid-scale systems used to fall into the large-scale scheme, with ongoing certificates rather than an upfront discount. That's what has changed.

What this changes for a commercial roof
Size to the load, not the cap
With the rebate stopping at 100 kW, the limit often set the system size. Now the system can be designed around your roof and your daytime load.
Stack it with a battery
The NSW battery discount can be combined with the federal solar rebate, so solar and storage together can come off the price upfront.
Mid-scale is an electrical project
At this size the supply, switchboard, export limits and network connection decide the job. That's our core trade.
One contractor, whole job
We design and install commercial solar from site assessment and feasibility through to commissioning, and check rebate eligibility as part of every quote.

Is there a government rebate for commercial solar?
Yes. Commercial solar systems can create small-scale technology certificates (STCs), which are usually taken as an upfront discount. From 1 October 2026 this covers systems up to 1 MW, up from 100 kW.
What size solar systems qualify for STCs now?
Systems with a total onsite capacity up to 1 MW. The change covers the mid-scale range between 100 kW and 1 MW, for systems installed from 1 October 2026.
When can we claim for a system over 100 kW?
The Clean Energy Regulator expects to open applications in mid to late November 2026, for systems installed from 1 October 2026.
Can we combine the solar rebate with the NSW battery discount?
Yes. The NSW Government has confirmed its business battery discount can be combined with the federal solar rebate for commercial rooftops.
What happens to large systems already accredited?
Systems already accredited under the large-scale scheme stay there and continue to create large-scale generation certificates.
Got a big roof and a big power bill?
Send us a recent bill and the site address. Tim will come back to you, weekdays 7am to 5pm.
